Maccari winery was founded in 1898 and since that date has been handed down from generation to generation to the care and passion to make wine. Currently the company is directed by: Dr . Maccari Italo as Chairman and his children Silvia and Philip as delegates directors who represent the fourth generation . Surrounded by vineyards, the historic venue , is Visnà di Vazzola (TV), there, are produced all wines in stem and still wines in the bottle typical of the area named Piave , land of refined red wines and home of the native wine Raboso.
Maccari Spumanti Winery is located near the luxuriant and fruitful hills in Conegliano where the prestigious and world-famous Prosecco wines grow up, in the heart of the traditional Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG land. We produce a full range of Sparkling and semi-Sparkling wines by natural fermentation method so-called “Charmat”. An accurate and refined selection of grapes, our long- time experience and wine-tradition, along with the modern technology let us to release this fine and elegant line of excellent wines.
For over one hundred years now, the Maccari family have been crafting noble wines, doing so with passion, with never-flagging dedication, and with creative flair, but always in full respect of local winemaking traditions. But their own personal contribution has been to understand and meet the needs of contemporary restaurateurs and tourism centres, by ensuring the satisfaction of their most faithful customers.
Our business began, as an azienda agricola, or farming estate, and up to the Second World War, we sold our wine in bulk, in large casks. After the war, the botti gave way to demijohns. But when I entered the business, in September 1962, right after my university degree, I introduced the practice of selling our wine in standard-sized bottles.”
Most of the sales in those years were in the Tri-Veneto area. Then as early as the 1970s, the winery expanded its sights and marketed to nearby Lombardy and Emilia, where demand immediately proved strong for the Veneto’s traditional wine-types. Today, we are in the top ranks of Italian wineries, and leader in the innovative draught-wine sector. We were true trendsetters in concentrating on the wine keg as early as the late 1980s.
In high-tourism areas, the demand for wine on draught has always been strong, and our winery enjoys a significant sector position and healthy sales increases, amounting to about 15% annually. Our strong points are twofold: the quality of the wine, first, but also sufficient container supply, even in the critical summer months when tourism increases and consumption doubles. On the same subject of distribution, Maccari sells direct to wholesalers throughout northern Italy, while it utilises a large national distributor for the rest of Italy.
In 2009, after obtaining its DOC appellation in 1969, Conegliano-Valdobbiadene Prosecco was given DOCG status , in the last decades, thanks to its pleasantness, elegance and freshness became one of the most successfull wine in the world fruit of an ancient tradition mixed and transformed over the centuries, the result of an increased awareness of excellence and a new culture of convivial wine enjoyment. For Conegliano-Valdobbiadene the “G” of guaranteed is the recognition of an excellent quality achievement at every stage of production. The numbered, State-issued bottle-seal affixed to every bottle, so-called “band”, makes it traceable, so consumers can find out about the history of the wine they are ejonying. The Prosecco produced in Conegliano-Valdobbiadene is unique because it embodies history and richness of a land won inch by inch. A combination of wine-knoledgement, tradition and innovation which has carried the Prosecco to a superior level of quality. The new DOC status in the manner provided for by the new law regards these provinces: TREVISO, BELLUNO, VENEZIA, VICENZA, PADOVA, UDINE, PORDENONE,TRIESTE E GORIZIA. Now “PROSECCO” is a denomination and the name of the grape from which it is produced is Glera.
